Workshops & Classes:

Sarah’s Methodology
Using a variety of precious metals, gems, diamonds and collected materials, my designs are brought to life through line, form, repeated elements, texture, reflection and color.  Implementing a meditative, rhythmic approach, I often combine several hand-hammered forming techniques such as forging, chasing, sinking, raising, repouse’ and shell-forming, as well as carving specialty wax for the casting process and hand-building.

By applying the flame of the torch, chemical solutions and/or pigments on my copper pieces, I intensify the depth of color, while texture and finish complete the unique character of each piece.  Where as, on my jewelry, different textures and polishing techniques interplay with reflection or lack thereof to express and complete the personality of each piece.

I am a one-woman artisanal jeweler, designer, metalsmith best known for my bold, dynamic, nature inspired, sculptural works of art, created for passion driven women and men who treasure distinctive, collectible accessories for their body and home.  My one-of-a-kind and limited edition designs are all created by hand using sustainable, re-claimed and ethically sourced materials whenever possible, in my Roanoke, VA studio.

Dynamic, distinctive, collectible.

Do you like to feel the earth between your toes?  For me, it’s something I actively seek out. I have always been rooted to the earth, collecting stones, shells, bone, seedpods and other organic items whose shapes, textures and patterns give me pause.  I study the forms, shadows and spaces in-between when observing the various habitats in my surrounding landscape, whether here at my home or while traveling. These influences can be found in all of my designs.

I also love creating custom pieces that are meaningful and unique to YOU,
celebrating life’s many events and become a cherished part of your story,
while providing quality craftsmanship and style.

Join me in my studio to collaboratively design and make an original heirloom quality piece of jewelry, original hand-hammered in-relief architectural tile, vessel or sculpture to fit your space and accentuate your design sensibility.

The 4 Steps to Your Original Custom Designed Commission

My Story

Since a very early age, I have been creating works of art in many forms and materials, always making, learning new techniques, earning merit along the way.  I took my first formal metals class at Virginia Commonwealth University where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Metalsmithing - Jewelry, & Textile Design. With these newfound skill sets, I was hooked, making custom jewelry for friends and family to celebrate life events while exhibiting my large hand-painted silk paintings and art jewelry in regional galleries and museums.

Always evolving, I broadened my repertoire into home decor, creating in metal on a larger scale, hand-hammering copper using a variation of a traditional forming techniques in order to make wall pieces for the home.  These labor intensive hand-hammered in-relief architectural tiles became my new ‘textile.’  This was a beautiful new union.  Now, with 25 years of studio experience, refining my techniques, I have curated two main categories of sculptural metal art that are highly prized by individuals, corporate clients, and designers.

My work has been featured in various publications and exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the eastern United States.  I am the founding member of the Southwestern Virginia Metal Arts Guild and serve on the board, and a juried artisan member of the Artisans Center of Virginia (ACV).  I host seasonal workshops (fundraisers), teach metalsmithing classes upon request, and love having clients visit me in my studio.
